ESL Lesson Plans

The volunteers who teach for Hopelink Adult Education bring an extraordinary wealth of knowledge, ideas, and enthusiasm to their teaching. This site is a way for us to share all of that.

This site's two main goals are:
1) To give information to new teachers or teachers who just want new ideas.
2) To give all Hopelink teachers a way to share their lesson plans and activities with other teachers so that everyone can benefit.

The Common Lessons section has dozens of lesson types, with descriptions of how to use each, and how to adapt each for lower or higher level students. If you are looking for ideas on an engaging mix of activities that will work with your diverse students, start in the Common Lessons section.

The Newcomers section focuses on lessons that students must master when they first start learning English.

The Levels 1 and 2 section has lessons for a wider range of topics, to give students the basic vocabulary and functional language they need to communicate with others.

The Levels 3 and 4 section has lessons for a more complicated situations and language constructs.

You can submit your lesson plans and descriptions of activities, and they will be added to the site as well. Let everyone benefit from your great ideas!

The Resources section includes links to Web sites and books that you may find useful as an ESL teacher.

Q: How do I submit a lesson plan or activity to the site?

A: Go to the "Collaborate" tab where we offer the directions and a basic template to use for lesson plan submission.
